As we all know that India is a most famous country all over the world for its great tradition and culture where women are given the most respected place in society from ancient times. It is the country where women are considered as safer and most respected. Women are given the place of Goddess Lakshmi in Indian society. Indian women are found working in all fields like aeronautics, space, politics, banks, schools, sports, businesses, army, police, and many more. We cannot say that this country has no women’s concern however we cannot ignore the positive points for women in India.
If we remember our history, we found that there was Panchaali Pratha in which a single woman (Draupadi) was allowed to get married to five men (Pandavas). It was all that we see from our open eyes, however if we see behind the curtain we will find all the crimes against women at home, offices, streets, etc. By seeing last few crimes against women in India such as rape cases, acid attacks, etc, the safety of women has been in doubt.
Every citizen needs to decide and affirmatively agree that each person has the right to be safe. Our constitution states that every single person is equal before the law. So why should it not be reflected in practice? Women and girls must be allowed to access education, healthcare, choice of career, choice of marriage partner, or the right to stay single. They should not be punished for their choice of garments, friends, or leisure activities. In short, they must be given respect and be allowed to exercise their rights.
Thinking about working women
Women now are more independent in every sense. They are competent enough to take care of themselves and their families. They are more able to make their own life choices and live on their own terms. Many companies also provide Posh Training for Employees; however, still it has not caused a set of different threads for the working women class. The Posh Training India association stated that Posh ICC Training is mandatory for every office culture, however still this system is highly uncommon across the nation.
However, everyday women are mistreated in the workplace by their co-workers. After the #metoo and #times up movement across the globe, more women are coming forward to tell their horror stories. Susan Fowler, an ex-employee from Uber claimed how her team manager harassed her on the very first day at her work. The incident led her to leave her team and eventually Uber. Following the incident, many other harassment complaints were filed. In the mid-2017, Uber fired 20 employees after investigating into the sexual harassment claims and workplace culture.
The statistics on sexual harassment in the workplace is very shocking. And it varies from place to place. According to thesurvey , 81 percent of women have faced some form of sexual harassment in their lives.
Sexual harassment can lead to anxiety, depression, lower self-esteem, alienation and overall degradation of their physical and mental health. It’s a disturbing fact that women in work still face sexual harassment, which is why many of them even quit their jobs.
